The Little Zoo

Yesterday, Joanna & I took the kids to a little zoo that is about 40 minutes from us. It wasn't spectacular, but it was pretty cool. The kids seem to really enjoy it. We were completely wiped out. Of course, Carter fell asleep about 5 minutes after getting in the car to go home.

It was a pretty eventful day. It started off with poor Jo getting lost. We have construction galore going on around here & if you don't know your way around these neighborhood roads, it is not hard to get turned around. I was beginning to worry about her, but she pulled in the driveway soon after. Heck, I'm constantly late picking her up for stuff & that isn't me getting lost.

So, I had to get gas in the van. Went to my favorite Red Barn & got $20 worth plus a fountain Diet Pepsi. If you have read my posts before, you know that is my favorite! I'm addicted to them. My neighbor guy & I both constantly see each other over at the gas station. Anyway, the credit card machine in the station wasn't working right. No one's would process. I waited & waited & waited. I looked at Joanna thru the window & waved. I wanted her to know that I hadn't ran off to join the circus as a carni :) or gotten held up in the gas station.

I also had my keys with me & she & the kids were in that hot van. I saw her finally open her door to let some air in. Finally, I just gave the lady cash. I know, I should have done that in the first place. But, I had to use that cash for the zoo, to get in. I got my gas & pop paid for & went to the van. I told Jo that I had to run to the bank now to get cash. We had to backtrack a ton because of the construction. I got to the bank, got some cash & put my fountain pop in the cup holder. Lo & Behold, my Styrofoam cup got stabbed with some earrings I had left in the cup holder. This is the 2nd time this has happened. You would think I would learn my lesson.

Diet Pepsi starting spewing out of the side of the cup. Joanna had to hold it in her hand while I found a side road to pull off on. Dumped out my pop, cleaned up what we could & got on our way. All I wanted was that d&^n Diet Pepsi.

When we finally arrived, we got out & got the kiddos out. I grabbed my camera & got it out to take a picture in front of the zoo. I couldn't wait to take pictures! My kids had never seen animals like this & I thought I could get a ton of cool shots. I go to take the picture and guess what? I forgot my memory card here at home. I had charged the battery & everything. But no freakin' memory card! Frustrating!! All I had was my chincey camera phone. I was able to get a few pictures.

It was probably 82 degrees or so outside. But our humidity is insane. I would say at least 90% humidity. I had sweat down the small of my back & of course my face looked like I had ran for 10 miles. Joanna started having the cramps & was not feeling so well. We decided to sit down in the park area & eat our lunch. I was dying of thirst. I had banked on my DP being there. I scrounged up some money & went to a machine not far away. It didn't work. Nice.

We were finally all tuckered out & left. On the way home, Jo said she needed cigarettes. When we got back in to town, we stopped at the old Red Barn. My mouth sounded like I was stirring mac & cheese. It was so dry. I said, "Oh please get me a fountain diet pepsi." She went in & Jasper decided to unbuckle his car seat & open the side door. He almost made a run for it. Never mind the fact that I had 3 other toddlers in there. You want to talk about mad. I put him back in & Joanna came out shaking her head. The Diet Pepsi had gone out on the lady in front of her. What!? For some reason, God didn't want me to drink yesterday. She got two cups of ice & a diet pepsi in a bottle. She got in the van & said, "I forgot my cigarettes." She went back in & Jasper then decided to try & make another run.

Needless to say, when we got home, we all took a nap. A fun but "Twilight Zoneish" day.
