Seagulls? In Indiana?

We went to visit my in-laws this weekend. Nate & I were driving out of the parking lot at Target when he pointed out the many seagulls that were wandering around. What?? Indiana isn't really known for it's beautiful beaches. Heck the only beach I've been to in Indiana is Sandy Beach...and it wasn't a real beach...just a little swimming hole with some sand. I mean, it's a nice try & all, but I wasn't fooled into thinking we were at some tropical destination. We're known for our corn, not for pristine white beaches. Okay, okay...I'll get back to my story. Sorry, my sis & her crew just got back from Florida & I think I may have some jealousy issues going on about that.

So, I ask Nate:

Me: Why are there seagulls in Indiana?

Nate: They bring them in to help clean up the trash.

Me: Are you being for real?

Nate: Yes, seagulls can help clean up trash.

Me: That's pitiful...we have to have seagulls flown in because we are too lazy to pick up our trash?

The moral of this blog? Come on now people, pick up your trash!! Do not litter in the first place!! It's pretty sad when we can't keep our surroundings clean & rely on birds to do it for us. Plus, I did a little reading up (yes, I did..don't roll your eyes). Did you know that seagulls are the most likely source of E. Coli bacteria on beaches because of the poopy (the article says "droppings" but I'm not fancy enough to use that word) that come from these seagulls who are drawn to human food handouts & litter?

So not only are we too lazy to properly dispose of our trash, but we also have a chance at getting E.Coli because of this laziness. When I finally get a beach house, I would rather not get sick & die from E.Coli. I mean, crap..I'll be 80 when I get a beach house so let me enjoy the few years I will have left. :) Leave those poor birds to gather their food for themselves & make it a priority to keep your environment clean.
